RAILWAY TO THE BEACH
A number of Palmerston seaside residents waited upon the Minister for Railways when iu Palmerston the other day, and asked that the railway be extended to the Beach. The matter was again referred to by the Mayor of Palmerston at Foxton on Thursday. Mr Nash said the distance from the Lady’s Mile to the Beach was about miles and the cost of construction would not be great. Fifty thousand people throughout the district were interested iu the seaside resort. He asked the Minister to give the request favourable consideration. Mr Herries said it was a matter for consideration by the Public Works Department. He could do nothing. He suggested that a deputation go down to Wellington and lay the matter before the responsible Minister when the House was in session.
