A TRAGEDY.
Auckland, Feb. 1
A tragic occurrence is reported at Otahuhu. A labourer, Charles John Mahon, aged 50, having, it is alleged, attacked his wife while she was in bed, striking her on the head with a hammer, inflicting serious injuries.
Mrs Mahon states that in consequence of her husband having made unjust allegations regarding her familiarity with a young man, she left him and stayed some time with her mother at Takapuna. She returned home yesterday. Her husband received her kindly. During the night he got out of bed, dressed, and went outside. He returned, and struck her with a hammer. She became unconscious, When she recovered she saw the sheets were covered with blood, and heard her husband say, “Oh, Kva!” Her husband ran out of the house.
He was found later in a very serious condition, having drank lysol. Restorative measures were employed by the doctor, but the man is not expected to recover. The parties have five children.
