HOME RULE.
THE) BILL in THE HOUSE
OF LORDS.
London, Jan. 28
The Home Rule debate in the House of Lords has beeu lifeless. The Duke of Devonshire moved its rejection. Earl Grey, speaking on the Home Rule Bill in the House of Lords, said as a convinced federalist he strongly opposed the Home Rule Bill. He preferred that Ulstermen in the north-east be given self-government similar to that prevailing in Ontario, and the Nationalists in the west and south should have the same rights as the men of Quebec. It was imperative in the Empire’s interests, that the question be settled on lines satisfying to the democracies in the self-governing dominions and United States.
Lord Dimravcn said the Bill was incomplete with federation and imposed no adequate check on the order of the Hibernians.
