SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
FARMERS GIVE ADVICE.
Christchurch, Jan. 22
At a meeting of the North Canterbury provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union this afternoon the following resolutions were adopted: (1) “That we, the North Canterbury provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, recommend that the freezing companies try to settle the dispute with the Slaughtermen’s Union by means of mutually appointed arbitrators ; (2) That if the above course fails the freezing companies should try to settle the matter with those of the Slaughtermen’s Union who uphold the principle of arbitration; (3) That if the whole body ot the Slaughtermen’s Union refuses to arbitrate, then we as a farmers’ union for the protection of our own occupation ask the freezing companies to allow us to man the boards with free labour.
