FOXTON RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

The members and officials of the local Racing Club have reason to be pleased with the success that attended the annual race meeting held on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather conditions were ideal and the attendance of the public good. Speculation on the totalisator was brisk, the amount handled during the two days being £23,781, as compared with ,£23,710 last year, an increase of The rain which fell during Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning did the course a great amount of good for the second day’s racing, but it no doubt interefered with the attendance of the public as when the special race trains were leaving the different stations the weather was threatening, and this stopped a large number who intended being present at the meeting from venturing from home. The fields, particularly on the first day, were large, and the racing interesting, some of the finishes being very good, and reflecting great credit on the excellent adjustments of the Club's handicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys.

Mr Angus Keith was very successtul with the barrier, his dispatches giving entire satislaction. On the first day two of the recently appointed stipendiary stewards, Messrs McMahon and Gordon, were in attendance, and on the second day Mr Gordon remained at Foxton whilst Mr McMahon attended the Wellington meeting. These gentlemen brought several of the riders before them to give explanations of their ridings, but these were apparently satisfactory as no further action was taken. The luncheon booths were run by Messrs Langley Bros, in their usual first-class style.

The whole meeting was entirely successful and passed off without a hitch of any sort, for which special praise is due to the good work of the officials, who, headed by Secretary Gray, had all arrangements well in head. During the day the proceedings were enlivened by selections by the local brass band. At the conclusion of the race for the Cup, after the jockeys had weighed out, McDonald, the rider cf the winner, Lady Moutoa, wr , presented with a whip by Mrs Freeman. The presentation was made in the “bird cage’’ the president of the Ciut, Mr J. R. Whyte, prefacing it by a few remarks. The following are the Ht'-r day’s results :
