CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor,)

Sir. —Allow me some of your valuable space in which to protest against the action of the Borough Council in calling for a parade of all licensed vehicles at 10 a.m. on Monday, 13th inst. Does the Council think that we can calmly lay aside our work at any hour they choose to specily. How are those of us getting on whose time table or other engagements compel us to be out of town at that hour ? Again, if the inspection is going to be anything more than a casual glance on behalf of the inspector, it will take considerably over half an hour, and what price those of us who generally look for a few shekels off the 10.30 train. What is the object of this inspection anyhow ? Will the inspector give us a certificate of proficiency if he considers us good enough, and will be take the responsibility of any accidents that may occur through defective harness etc., after he has pronounced it sate. I may state that it will put some of us to considerable trouble getting horses, harness, etc., to yoke up all our vehicles at once, to say nothing of getting men to drive them. Another point that seems to me peculiar is, that they demand that all licenses be renewed by the ytb, and now, after we have paid up, they are evidently going to consider whether they will allow us to run or uot. I thiuk, sir, the least they could have done was to allow us some laxity, and let us parade our chariots at any time between 10 o’clock and 4, the regular office hours.—l am, etc., Jehu.
