•- The Mahawatu County Council Speht some time considering the question of collecting Tates on nfltlve land. So far, the Council has not exercised its powers in this respect, but a cursory glance at the county shows that a large revenue should be available in this direction. Rangiotu (Oroua Bridge), Himatangi, Motuiti, Kawakawa, and other, localities
include some five thousand acres _of Maori land, a great deal of it of con sidarable value, while some of it is being used as dairying land, the Maoris supplying milk to the factories.
