MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

ANNUAL RETURNS, ?

The local Clerk of the Court (Mr F. Woods) Has supplied uts with the following returns of the business of the Foxton Magistrate’s Court, for the year ended December 31st, 1912 : During the year the Court was presided over by the Magistrate on; 12 occasions and 50 times by Justices. i CIVIL. ; The number of summonses issued was 134, ' warrants 14, judgment summonses 36, orders on .judgment summonses -jB, warrants of committal 4. The amount sued for was .£716 10s Tld, and the amount ,recovered £367 14s 2d! The amount of fees paid in stamps was £56 11s. In chambers two old age pensions were granted and 38 renewed, one widow’s pension was granted, one order made for a re-hearing, one ratepayers’ list passed and two adoption orders were granted, CRIMINAL. During the year 48 persons were summoned or apprehended. Two were committed for sentence and 46 summarily convicted ,as follows : Threatening language ;1, assaults 2, breaking into dwellings 1, cruelty to animals 1, disobeying orders of court 3, drunkenness 20, failing to provide maintenance for relatives 5, prosecutions undfer Fisheries Act 3, false pretences 1, gaming offences 5, obscene language 1, laying poison 1, attempted suicide 1, thefts 2 and vagrancy 1. The amount of criminal fees was £lO, and fines £64 18s.
