CROWN LANDS TO BE OPENED UP.

Referring to the Crown lands open for selection in the Wellington Province, the advance sheets of the 1912 Year Book, just to hand, has the following ; The area of Crown lauds now remaining in this land district is about 273,500 acres, a large portion of which, however, is inferior land at a high altitude and suitable only for pastoral purposes of climatic reservations. An area of about 5000 acres in the South Waituarino Block, north-west of Raetihi, comprising rough and broken laud,

will shortly be placed on the market on the optional system ; also a portion of the Waikaihuwaka Block (about 5935 acres), uear the headquarters of the Waitotara River ; about 2450 acres in the Ngamatea and Karioi Survey Districts ; about 1000 acres in the Huuua Survey District, near Kakahi ; and about 1550 acres in the Pipiriki Block, uear Ashhurst. Surveys will shortly be put in hand of further blocks in the South Waimariuo country, comprising about 30,000 acres.
