RAILWAY TO THE BEACH.

Mr Tolley, of Feilding, and a. ex-member of the Foxtou Harbour Board, who, with his family, are spending Christmas at the Beach, in ,the course of a conversation with a representative of this journal, said the Foxtou oceati beach was one of the finest and safest he had ever seen, He said that at a meeting of representatives of local bodies held at Palmerston some time since, it was decided to approach the railway department with a view of an extension of the railway to the Heads, If this were done it would be 3 boon to hundreds of families as far distant as EJketahuua and Dannevirke and the Rangitikei, who desired to spend a holiday at the seaside. In other places such provision was made for the people’s pleasure. He pointed out that at present people wishing to go to the seaside were landed at the Foxton railway station about three miles from the sea, and it was an expensive item to complete the journey. He thought that the project with such a powerful backing should be urged upon the Department, and suggested that the matter should be brought under the notice of the Hon. Mr Herries when he visited Foxtou next month. We agree with Mr Tolley that the matter should be mentioned to the Minister and pass it on to the Harbour Board.
