Our reporter yesterday had a look round the simps, and found everyone working at high pressure in opening up new goods and fulfilling Christmas orders. Special preparations have this year been made, and a record Christmas trade is anticipated. This firm makes a speciality of the provisiou trade, but in additiou they carry large stocks of everything that should be found in an up-to-date grocery establishment. Christmas delicacies have not been overlooked, as a glance at their window display will prove. F. Ga SITUS,
when asked how trade was, salt the piospects were excellent, auc that so far his returns were : third better than at the same tirm last year. The Universal Supply Stores of which Mr C. H. Collins is the proprietor, presented a very busy appearance, the staff working al high pressure iu attending to the wants ot customers. A feature of this store is the excellent window display, in which the seasonable goods are shown to great advantage. Visitors to this establishment can rely on a hearty welcome aud good value lor their money. Walker & Furrie, general grocers, provisiou merchants, etc., have, in accordance with the usual custom, made special preparations for tire festive season, aud invite inspection of their stocks. Their glassware and crockery department afford ample scope for the selection ol Christmas presents suitable for young or old, at prices that will suit any purse. Under the same roof as Messrs Walker aud Furrie we fiud
R, T. Betty waiting to supply men, women aud children with the latest in English and colonial footwear. The genial Tom believes iu starting the New Year well, and therefore advises residents of Foxton to commence 1913 with a new pair of “Betty’s Boots.” The next port of call was the shop of
M. E. Pekkeau, the window of which is tastefully laid out with tempting edibles, including a fine lot of Christmas cakes. Mr Perreau said that this year had been a record one for the sale of Christmas cakes, a position he attributes to the increasing prosperity of the district. Whilst we were there, Mr Perreau was busy making special preparations for the children, and in this connection is fixing up a “lucky tub,” for which excellent prizes have been provided. The kiddies are promised the time of their lives.
