THE EVANS INQUIRY.

Waihi, Thursday. At the adjourned inquiry into the death of Evans during the Waihi riot, Mrs Cottie, one of the women in the hall when the big row commenced, stated she bad a clear view of Evans. She saw no weapon in his hand, and heard no report, excepting the shots Inside the hall. She saw Evans struck down by the constable, and saw the crowd afterwards gather round and assault him and attempt to lynch him. If other witnesses slated differently they would be wrong. The inquest is proceeding.
