METHODIST CHURCH.

The Sunday school in connection with the local Methodist Churcu celebrated its anniversary last Sunday. The service., were of an to* teresving nature and were well attended by the scholars and their parents. Throughout the day special hymns were rendered by the children in a very creditable manner. Mr A. Rimmer conducted the singing and Miss E. Evans presided at the organ. At the afternoon service the distribution of prizes, took place, the books being handed to the children by Mr Huntley (superintendent). Recitations were well given by Muriel Daniel and William Cooper Masters Roy Bullard and Willie Signal- sang very creditably. Some of the children who were to have recited were kept away through sickness. The Rev T. Coatswoith gave a short address on “Absalom,” advising the children to be careful what kind of companions they chose. At the evening service Masters Roy Bullard and Willie Signal repeated by request the duet, “Have courage my boy,” and the children, assisted by the choir, rendered a special anthem during the taking of the offertory. The Rev T. Coatsworlh, who conducted the services, took as bis subject at the moruiug service, “The Childhood of Samuel,” showing Samuel to have been a child greatly beloved ; a child consecrated to the service of God ; a child to whom there came a revelation from God and a child for whom there was a glorious future. At the eveuiug service the address was based on God’s words to Joshua, “Be of good Courage.” The young people were specially urged to have courage to come out on the Dora’s side ; to be faithful witnesses for Him ; to be courageous in resisting temptation, and the result would be, that victory would come to them as it came to Joshua in the days of old. The services throughout wereof a bright, hearty character. At the evening service, before commencing his address, the preacher thanked Mr A. Rimmer, Miss Evans, Miss D. Signal and Mrs Huntley and all who had assisted in training the children, and in making the anniversary services the success they bad been.
