and family of the late Mr • Lacey. The attendance was calculated at almost 700. The programme of pictures submitted . was a really goon one, being equal to any yet shown locally. The star film, depicting the Shakesperian tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet," was a very fine one and held the interest of the audience throughout.
At intervals during the. evening songs were contributed by Mrs Hall and Messrs W. Cook, Buglass and W. Hooker, and were greatly appreciated by those present.
The amount received by the secretary of the fund (Mr Lumsdeu) up to this morning for the sale of tickets and door takings amounted to £53 2S and there are still a number of returns from the sale of tickets to come iu. In addition to the above amount Mr Lumsden has also received the sum of £l2 12s by way of donations. The expenses of last night’s entertainment will not exceed £2. The Flaxmills Employees’ Union, of which the late Mr Lacey was a member, have also had lists out at the various mills, by which a good sum has been raised. A meeting of the Union committee and the local committee is to be held iu Mr Perreau’s rooms at 7 o’clock to-morrow evening for the purpose of discussing the advisability of “pooling” the funds and finally deciding as to the disposal of same. The secretary of the local committee would be glad if all those who had tickets for sale will kindly hand iu their returns before to-morrow night in order to enable him to present a balance sheet at the meeting to be held that evening.
