FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
A well-attended raeeeting of members of the above was held in the supper room of the Town Hall last evening. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the President, Mr H. Witchell occupied the chair. The Chairman in explaining the object of calling the members together, said that owing to the bad season a number of exhibitors would not be able to exhibit in the cut bloom and other out-door classes. The question of finances had also to be considered. The President desired him to say that be had an open mind on the subject but suggested that if the spring show was abandoned this year, the autumn show should also be set aside. In this particular the Chairman did not agree. The Chairman quoted the names of several prominent exhibitors who would not be able to show this year.
A desultory discussion ensued and M r Hornblow moved that the dates lor the Spring Show be adhered to. He said those responsible for calling the meeting had done so in the best interests of the society. In societies of this nature they had to contend with good and bad seasons. If the show were postponed it would in his opinion prejudicially effect the society. If members canvassed no doubt a fair number of entries in the cut bloom classes could be secured. The motion was carried almost unanimously. A vote ol thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
