SAD DROWNING FATALITY.
AT THE HEADS,
LITTLE BOY W A SHED n U" p T 0 ’•' ■,
\ drowning fatality happened at tbe Heads yesterday afternoon between 3 and 3.30 o’clock by which a 12-year-old boy named Callaway Robinson, son of Mr Peter Robinson, flaxmill manager, lost his life.
It appears that the little fellow, in company with some companions, went lor a picnic to the seaside, They were wading at the point, a very treacherous locality by reason of the backwash. Mr Hart, who was whilebaiting a little lower down tbe river, noticed the children in the water and called to Mr Davey, whose children ,he thought they were, warning him that they were taking a great risk. Mr Davey went back to tell the children to come out wheu he saw the lad in the breakers. There was a very strong current at the time and a heavy sea breaking on the bar and the child was carried out to sea and disappeared. The pilot and others were quickly ou the scene but nothing could be done.
The police and the child’s parents w.*re communicated with and dragging operations were in engaged in but without success. It is thought the body was washed out to sea and that the current will carry it and possibly cast it up on the south beach. Much sympathy is expressed for the griei-strickeu parents. A party is still searching for the body.
