COLONEL ROOSEVELT WOUNDED.

Milwaukee, Oct. 15

Ex - President Roosevelt has been shot by a Socialist. The wound is serious.

He was removed to a temporary hospital, where an examination was made, and the wound pronounced not to be fatal.

New Yoke, Oct. 15

Colonel Roosevelt was wounded in the breast. He was shot outside an hotel en route to deliver a political address in the Milwaukee Auditorium. He retused to allow doctors to examine him, and he spoke to a huge meeting with the bullet still in his body. Towards the end of the address he became weak through the loss of blood, and was removed to an hotel The assailant is a man named John Schrauk, He is a resident of Now York.

The mob tried to lynch him, but the police prevented ibis. When arrested he declared that any man seeking a thud terra ought to be shot. When the assailant was searched at the police station do nunents were found in hE possession showing that he had trad a dream wherein President McKinley's spirit visited him, indicated Roosevelt as McKinley’s murderer and asked him to take vengeance upon Roosevelt. Schrankis undoubtedly crazy. Chicago, Oct. 15.

Mr Roosevelt's political campaign will have to be abandoned, absolute rest being prescribed.
