FLAXMILLS, TYPHOID, AND THE MORAL.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —’The efforts of Mr Robertson, Labour M.P., on behalf of the Manawatu hemp workers are worthy of the highest commendation. Not only should the flaxowners be compelled to supply pure water, but also oatmeal, a drink which is highly recommended for its antifebrile efficacy, dmiug the hottest moutbs ot the year. It is the proud boast of the Dominion that we are ever in the van of the world’s social and political progression, but when one turns a contemplation of the work 01 the erstwhile great Liberal Party, with iss "freak legislation" and its inefficient Executive, and a further contemp'ation <V Mr Massey's "masterly Mw.-.ivm <»ud SUpiUcUcas" to the procure of Labour in servitude, of Labour oppressed and inarticulate, of Labour striving to man a great and thriving industry under conditions which are inimical to life and health, and a violation of the principles of advanced hygiene we find there the negation of our claim. We are compelled to recognise that "facts are stubborn things,” and that truths, although unpalatable, are still truths undiminished, And the moral is this; It is absolutely imperative for Labour to confederate all isolated and autonomous bodies and thus secure an equitable and suitable representation in the legislative halls of the Dominion, We do not want to be represented by tools or by rogues, by revolutionary agitators, or by the myrmidons of systematised "graft,” but by men of "fixed and noble purpose.” We waul the prophetic meutois of the age—they who mould and teach a nation’s destiny with faces turned towards that Millennial dawn which is shining across the tortive path of human progression. I am, etc., James Gkoitkev Graham, "Ravens worth,” Liddel Street, Foxtou, 11/10/12,
