Dunkdin, Oct. 7. . In the Police Court to-day, Frank Crumlish was charged witn having assaulted Victor Smith on October 4th, on the Main Trunk express between Auckland and Wellington. Evidence was given that four seamen left Auckland on Thursday night under engagement to join the barque Tuaiwa at Dunedin. At Waiouru another man joined the train with a bottle ol whisky. A quarrel eventually took place, and it was contended that Crumlish and Smith had a scuffle, in the course of which the lormer bit Smith’s ear. Accused admitted the facts, with the exception of biting, which he deniedHe was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
