THE S.S. GERTIE.
The s.s. Gertie, which met with a mishap on the bar early Ibis week, and sprung a leak, still lies where she was ran ashore, about a quarter of a mile from the fishermen’s point. The leak in the vessel’s bottom is forward. Her cargo of coal is being transhipped into punts. A ten-inch centrifugal pump arrived from Wellington yesterday, and this is coping with the water. It is hoped that the leak will be stopped, and that the vessel will be refloated on Monday. The vessel is lying in a safe position, and no difficulties are anticipated in getting her off.
