THE S.S. GERTIE.

IN A SERIOUS POSITION. PRACTICALLY submerged. The s.s. Gertie, which struck on the bar last Monday, was got off last night. A quantity of her cargo of coal, was lightered. She was then leaking badly, and settled in the river. The steamer is now in a very serious position, being practically submerged. There is a good depth of water where she settled it reaching up to the level of the decks.

As yet it is impossible to say how much damage has been done or what steps are to be taken to raise her.
