A FAN-SHAPED TAIL.

The new comet already reported has been seen at Patea- The Government astronomer (Mr C. F). Adams) was recently advised by Mr Homer, ot Patea, that he observed the comet on Wednesday last, nth September, and again the next dv, 12th September. During the intervals the comet had moved forward by north. On Tk’-rsday evc‘vn~ the- cotnC:; position was 14 hours light ascenji. -,ii i 35 degrees south declinas ;i nu neatly on a line between T’s-.-ui Centauri and Pi Virginis about one degree from the former On Thursday the comet appeared brighter than on the previous evening. The weather has not been sufficiently clear in Wellington to permit of a search being made for the comet. The equatorial telescope at the new Kelburne Observatory will be available, however, for this kind of work in a very short time uow. The comet is now barely visible in Melbourne to the naked eye.
