The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, September 14, 1912. NOTES AND COMMENTS.

We are informed that a landowner in this locality recently decided to throw open portions of his chunk of earth for closer settlement—a laudable thing to do. The price ot the land was fixed at so much per acre. In the meantime a farm was publicly auctioned, and brought a record

price. As a result of this it is said that per acre has been added lo the land that was to be put on the market. And yet the Old Book says, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof.’’ Anyhow, we don’t think the Lord will receive the extra ,£lO per acre and, further, when the inspired writer wrote there was no such thing as individual land monopoly, and unearned increment was unheard of.
