ENTERTAINMENTS.

SKATING. We give a final reminder to our readers of the plain, fane; dress and masquerade skating carnival, which is ’-eld in the C' -onation Tf , ■ fall on Monday next. All ar , gements are now well in hand na. .he promoter, Mr Rough, has bit no stone unturned to make the affair a pi enounced success, both socially and financially. The prizes, which are on view in Mr Bradley’s window, are very handsome and should bring big entries and keen contests for all competitions. The Grand March will commence at 8 o’clock, therefore patrons should not tail to be early in order to avoid disappointment, as this, if correctly done, with the various fancy costumes, presents a very pretty spectacle. Now that local skaters are being given a chance to prove their skill, it will be well worth the price of admission alone to see what some of our “local champions’’ can do. and we would not be surprised to see some ot this season’s learners account for some of the prizes. The Borough Band will render musical items during the evening, which should enliven the proceeding considerably. However, we hope that both skaters and onlookers will roll up in lull force on Monday night, as had it not been lor Mr Rough’s generosity skaters would not been given this treat, and as he has gone to considerable expense it is up to patrons to well reward him for his untiring efforts in promoting this carnival. Mr Rough has also provided two special prizes, one each fo:. the best lady and gentlemea skater, who has learned the a‘ of propelling the rollers at tLe local rink during the p r ■ season.
