VALEDICTORY.

A large gathering of ladies met at Mrs A. S. Easton’s residence j esterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mrs R. Barber. The house was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and presented a magnificent florilegium. During the afternoon a cake competition was contested and won by the guest ol the day. A sumptuous afternoon tea followed, and then the vicar, on behalf of the Ladies’ Guild, presented Mrs R. Barber with a handsome silver kettle on stand. In making the presentation, the vicar referred to the good work Mrs Barber had done in the Guild, and how for many years she assiduously carried out her duty as a member. He spoke of her devotion to the church and her zeal and example in her religious exercises. He then spoke of Miss Barber in eulogistic terms and mentioned her sphere of work in the choir and church socials. The vicar deeply regretted the departure of such good parishioners, whose loyalty to him had always been such an encouragement, but they had met there not to deal with regrets, but to make it a happy farewell and wish them God’s blessing in their home and future work. On receiving the presentation Mrs Barber feelingly thanked the Guild for their kind gilt which would always be a memento of happy days and sincere Iriends. Mr and Mrs Barber and family intend leaving Foxton lor Te Horo early next week, and we, with others, join in wishing them every happiness in their new home.
