HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A well-attended committee meetng of the local Horticultural Society was held last night. The President, Mr Alex. Spelts, occupied the chair. The balancesheet of the recent Bulb Show was read, which disclosed a slight deficit. Receipts totalled ,£l2 7s 5d and expenditure £l3 10s 6d. It was decided to award a certificate and 5s for the champion bloom, and to make a refund to Mr Rockel of half entry lees. Accounts in connection with the show were read and passed tor payment. Correspondence was read from Dr Adams tendering his resignation, and it was unanimously decided that the resignation be re-considered.
Details in connection with the schedules of the Spring and Autumn Shows were discussed at length. It was decided to procure green covering for the tables on which cut blooms are exhibited in lieu ot white paper, to give a better effect. The following judges were appointed, subject to their acceptance: Pot plants aud cut blooms, fruit and vegetables for Spring Show, Mr Weightman. Cookery, Mrs Davis (Rongotea); decorative, Mrs Billman (Feilding); fancy work, Mrs Croucher (Palmerston); school work, Mr Elliott (Palmerston). It was decided that aU school work be forwarded to the judge at least a week before the show. It was decided that prizes in cookery classes be 2s and is.
Other routine business was discussed and the meeting rose.
