A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.

FATHER SHOOTS HIS SUN

A was caused at Fu. bury Crv-.a-.il, Si Clair, Dunedin, at mid-day on Saturday, the cause being a shooting affray, which took place at the residence 0; Robert Turner. It appears that Percy John Turner bad some words with his father, Roner Turner, that morning before gome to work, the altercation being dm to the father having been out ■>: employment for some time, .d.i sou ordered his father out u; cue house, and assaulted him, and then went away. The father, incensed by the son’s conduct, laid iu wait for him when he came home, and shot him iu the side. Dr. Lindsay was summoned, and he ordered the removol of the victim to the hospital, where it was found that the injuries were ol such a character as to necessitate an operation. The bullet had entered the left side a few inches below the armpit and penetrated some of the organs. The bullet was extracted, when it was discovered that there was little hope of the young man’s recovery.

The police made arrangements to have his depositions taken, but this was out ot the question, as he was man unconscious condition. Robert Frankly* Turner, an elder son, said that he heard the report ot a gun come from tne direction of the stauie, and saw his brother tall, and then his father rushed out of the stable with a gun in his hand. He had never seen the gun before. After perpetrating the crime 'Turner ran to the street, where he was met by a neighnour named Ross, who took the gun from him. They then went to the South Dunedin P lice Station, where Turner gave himseil up, sayiug he had shot his sou iu the arm. He denied subsequently any intention to kill his sou.

Percy Turner succumbed to his injuries at 6.40 ou Saturday night. He was employed as a commercial traveller.

A charge of murder is to be brought against Robert Turner.
