THE MOTUITI CASES.

HINGAWAKA FINED £2O,

At the Magistrate’s Court, Palmerston North, Hingawaka Tupa* roa was brought forward to answer two charges of introducing liquor into a Maori pah, and two charges of supplying female natives with liquor. The accused pleaded not guilty.

Evidence for the prosecution was given by Taylor Hoterini, Mrs Nap. Heta and Louisa Heta, and for the defence by the accused, Mrs Hingawaka and Heta senr. After hearing the evidence, the Magistrate found accused guilty on all counts, and inflicted a fine of ,£2O, with costs

Accused asked for time in which to pay the fine, and upon his application being refused, the native who stood surety lor him in connection with the other case paid the amount.
