CONCERT.

The Tiakitahuna Orchestral Society’s concert in the Masonic Hall last night was attended by a fair aud keenly appreciative audience. The orchestral selections included, “March from Athalie” (Mendelssohn), “Overture to Kenilworth,’’ selection from “Martha,’’ and “The Sailors Chorus.’’ In view 01 the fact that the orchestra has only been in existence for about six months, the progress it has made reflects the greatest credit upon the ability oi its conductor and the enthusiasm oi its members. All the selections were very well rendered, aud heartily applauded. Miss Greeu contributed two pianotorte solos by Riszt, which were spleudialy interpreted pieces of tnis famous composer by the talented young musician, despite the second grade instrument placed at her disposal. Her efforts were deservedly encored. Mr Kitchen, of Palmerston N., contributed a soullul violin solo. Miss Mumlord, of Raugiotu, displayed her versatility, both as a vocalist aud elocutionist. Her vocal numbers were, “It all the Stars were Mine,’’ “Wee Bit Shy" (encore), “The Kerry Dancers,’’ and “Annie Raarie” (encore). She also had to respond to an undeniable encore ior her recitation, “Reasons with the Fan,” and “Patrick’s Courtship” was given as a recall. Mr H- Ryall is a born humourist, and his songs created roars of laughter. His items were, “The Big Bassoon,” the “Village Pump,” “My Juliet,” aud “When the Minister comes to Tea.” Mr Buglass received a great ovation for his songs, “Bouuie Mary,” “Mary” (encore), “Ret Me like a Soldier Fall,” and “When Other Rips” (encore). The male quartette, “Simple Simou,” unaccompanied, by Messrs Voss (2), Rowland and Mcßweu, was uiie of the best items ol the evening, aud as an encore they gave with equal success, “The Hills Resound.” Mr McKwen, who is the possessor of a good tenor voice, did justice to the patriotic number, “There’s a Rand.” and had to respond. Mr and Miss Voss met with a splendid reception int he duet, “Nocturne,” and responded with the plaintive song, “Hushed is the Twilight.” The National Anthem brought a very enjoyable concert to a close.

The accompaniments were played by Misses Green and Jenks and Mr Voss.

We hope this concert party will visit Foxtou again, when the reputation they gained last night should ensure them a bumper house.
