SOCIAL AND CONCERT.
A most enjoyable social was held in All Saints’ Schoolroom on Tuesday night. The stage was nicely decorated and the light was splendid from the gas recently installed. The attendance was very good in spite of other counter attractions, Mr R. T. Betty was responsible for the excellent programme. A number of items were given by the Glee Party, and were rendered with taste and a good knowledge of part singing. We congratulate this well-trained band of singers and hope to hear more of them in Foxton. Mr Longworth rendered his song in good voice, and was vociferously encoured. The duettes sung by Mrs J. Robinson and Mrs A. Jenks and Messrs Buglass and Jenks were much appreciated. The lady singers, Mrs Freeman and Miss Barber, were received with applause. Mrs Freeman, who is a new singer to Foxton, has a pleasing manner and renders her songs with good effect. Mr S. B. Collins sang in his usually good style, and the two tenor solos by Mr Buglass and Mr Blakely were enthusiastically received. The violin solo by Mr Simmons, accompanied by Mr S. B. Collins, was deservedly encored, and his playing showed great skill. Mr Hornblow’s items were well received. The last item was by Mr W. Cook, whose rich baritone voice was heard to great advantage in the “Lost Chord,” but his encore song, “The Rosary,” was sung with even greater feeling. Miss Jenks played the accompaniments in her usual capable manner. The ladies of the Guild provided a bountiful supper and a most enjoyable evening terminated with the National Anthem.
