Cr Chrystal, at Tuesday’s Borough Council meeting, asked it it would not be advisable in view of the recent fires, for the Council to consider the advisability ot employing a nightwatchman. The Mayor said he thought that was a matter for the business people themselves. Cr Richmond advocated shifting the firebell from its present position to the top of the Coronation Hall, from where the sound would carry better.

Among the companies registered recently is the Poplar Flaxmilling Company Ltd., registered as a private company on the' 23rd instant, with offices in Johnston Street, Foxton. The capital is divided into 500 shares of each, the subscribers being; W. Wood ray, W. Ross 225 and C. Bawtel 137. The objects are to purchase Ireehold-lauds of the Green Flaxdressing Co,, Ltd., together with buildings and flaxmiil machinery and plant. There was a fairly good attendance at the Catholic social in the Coronation Hall last night when a very enjoyable time was spent. The floor was in good order and all arrangements capably carried out. The music was supplied by Mr F. C. Berthold and Mr S. Hudson officiated as M.C. The supper, which needless to say, was much enjoyed, was provided by the ladies of the parish.
