FIRE PREVENTION.

A special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber ou Tuesday night. Present His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.,) and Crs Adams, Chrystall, Richmond and Stewart. An apology for absence was received from Cr Greig. One of the chief reasons for calling the special meeting was to discuss the question of providing some means of fire prevention, and to receive the report of Mr Barnard, Superintendent of the Palmerston Fire Brigade, as to the scheme best suited to Foxton. The Mayor said that Mr Barnard had visited Foxton the previous day, and had given a verbal report as to the most suitable scheme for the town. He had asked that the report should be put in writing, and this Mr Barnard had promised to do. As soon as this came to hand a meeting would be convened lor the purpose of discussing it.
