THE GAS WORKS.

JUNE WORKING

During the month of June, 335.000 feet of gas was manufactured, which, added to the amount in the holder on May 31st (7000 feet), gives a total of 342,000 feet. The gas sold to consumers amounted to 250,300 feet, used in works 31,300 feet, street lamps 31.000 feet, manager's house 1500 feet, gas in meter June 30th 7.000 feel, and leakage and unaccounted for 20,900 feet. Seven new services were laid during the mouth. The Mayor said that during last month the amount of gas sold to consumers was 47,000 feet less than the previous month. This decrease was a sequel to the fire, a number of consumers having been burned out. Then the leakage and gas unaccounted for was 14.000 feet above the average, making a loss of 61,000 feet, of gas last month through the Are. Also two meters were destroyed, and when piping, etc., was taken into account, it would be seen that the fire resulted in a serious loss to the gasworks. It would mean also that these would not be using gas for at least six months, and the output would consequently suffer, and it was possible that the gasworks account would not be in the position at the end of the year that it was hoped it would have been in.
