A WAIROA SENSATION.
WAITRESS HAS A NARROW ESCAPE.
Wairoa, July 8,
Last night a sensational shooting affair occurred at Buchanan’s boardinghouse, when a man stood in the doorway and fired a rifle shot into the kitchen. The bullet missed Miss Delia Martin, a waitress, and passed through an eight-inch sill, and lodged in a fence. Accused then gave himself up to the police. Jealousy is supposed to have been the cause of the trouble. Accused has been moody ever since, and refuses food. He is an ex-soldier of the 24th Regiment, and states that he was at Omdurman when Kitchener smashed the Khalifa. He served in South Africa and in the Transvaal Town Police.
Accused has been remanded till Wednesday.
