THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
MAY GRADING RETURNS,
The total number of bales of hemp graded during the month of May was 9,931, as compared with. 7,777 bales lor the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 2,154 bales. For the twelve months ended 31st May, 1912, the number of bales graded was 90,529 as compared with 101,253 for the previous twelve mouths, the decrease being 10,724 bales. During the month 2,815 bales of tow were dealt with, as compared with 2,276 tor the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 538 bales, HEMP. The number of bales of hemp graded at each port was as follows ; Auckland 919, Napier 118, Foxtou 4417, Wellington 3854, Picton 92, Dunedin 236, Bluff 295, The number in each grade was as under: — Good Port. Fine. Fair. Fair. Com.
Seven bales at Foxton, 12 at Wellington, and two at Bluff were rejected. TOW. The tow graded was destributed as follows :
o First Grade. Sec’nd Grade. Third Grade. Cond. Total.
STRIPPER SUPS. At Wellington 160 bales, and at Foxton 117 bales were passed for shipment. Twelve bales were condemned at Wellington,
