ELECTRICAL ACCUMULATOR.
A WONDERFUL INVENTION
The invention of the ideal electrical accumulator, which will solve many of the problems of traction, has been announced a dozen times, usually in connection with the name of Mr Edison, the famous engineer. But delay and final disappointment, and the mechanical world has grown tired of waiting for the contrivance that will enable a light “runabout” to travel many hundreds of miles on one charge of electricty. Recently the old claim has been renewed on behalf of Professor Hannover, a Danish inventor of proved ability. The Professor has long been studying the problem of the storage of electricity and he has produced an accumulator which, according to his own estimate, has five times the efficiency of any existing pattern. In other words, the weight has been reduced to one-fifth of what is necessary at the present time, and the electric motor which depends for its supply of power on an accumulator need no longer be exhausted, like the army horse, by the necessity ot carrying its own dinner. The important feature of the new invention is said to be a porous lead alloy, perforated with millions of microscopic holes. This accumulator will be fairly expensive, but it will be invaluable, if its promise is realised, for use in vehicles, flying machiues, submarine boats and railway cars.
