CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —Some time ago before the late Mr Wallace died, he drove Mr Malcolm and myself up the Tokomaru Valley, Blast Road, from Shannon, for the purpose ot Mr Malcolm, the Horowheuua County Council’s Engineer, making a le port as to the suitability of utilising the Otira Stieam for a high pressure water supply for Shannon. The report was very favourable and the cost was estimated at ,£SOOO, and that included laying the water in the principal streets of Shannon, Since then I am informed a saving could be effected of but without reckoning on the saving, saying it cost it would, in my opinion, be one of the best investments Shannon could get. The late fire in Foxtou must make it apparent to most people the desireability of a high pressure water supply, and il Foxton and Shannon were to mutually agree on a scheme both townships would be able to get high pressure water for less money than two separate intakes. —I am, etc., J. R. Stansku., seur. Shannon, June sth, 1912.
