ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.

The vestry of All Salats’ Church met at Mr Franklaad's residence on Tuesday night. Present: The Vicar (in the chair), Messrs Stewart, Easton, Frankland, Kellow, Boyes, Nickels, Hollington, Betty and Crowe. The vicar read out the Parochial District Act, and explained the duties of churchwardens and members of the vestry. The first part of the meeting was spent in discussing the financial position of the parish. The most important proposal of the/ evening was that of Mr A. J. Kellow, seconded by Mr A. 3. Easton. This was a proposal to form a branch of the Church of England Men’s Society in this parish. Mr Crowe, who is a member of the C.E.M.S., explained the power such a society would be in the district, and the means it would be In getting in touch with the men. Meetings would be held each month for debates, readings, men’s services, etc. It was decided that a special meeting be held on the 18th June to discuss the best way of arranging a mass meeting of men, and to ask the Rev H. G. Rosher, vicar of Palmerston North, to be the chief speaker at the mass meeting to be held in July. The vicar explained briefly the object of the C.E.M.S., which was founded a few years ago by the Archbishop of York. The membership was now over a million, and members were in every part of the world. At the service of admission each member was given a badge, a St. George’s Cross, bearing the letters C.E.M.S. on one side, and on the other side the motto of the society, “All in One.” This society has proved to be the greatest in the world as far as the church is concerned, and members knew each other by the badge, and helped each other in whatever country they were. Most of the Bishops were members, and nearly every parish in the Diocese of Wellington had a branch, and it was hoped that Foxton would not be long without one. The vestry meeting was enthusiastic, and gave promise of good work to be done during the year. Mr Kellow proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Fraukland, and the meeting terminated.
