FOXTON FIOURKS

Foxton was first made a hempgrading port in 190 S, and a grader was then appointed to grade at both Foxtou and Napier. Since tnen the amount of hemp and tow graded locally h-.c greatly increased, and it was found impossible tor the Foxton grader to also attend to the Napier work, and that port has since been visited by a Wellington grader. Foxton’s output has been sufficient to warrant the appointment of an assistant at the local sheds, and for some mouths past more hemp has been graded each month locally than at any other grading centre. During the first year that grading was undertaken at Foxton, 11,320 bales passed through the sheds, and for the year ended March 31st last the number graded was 36,892. The increase in bales of phormium produce iu the three years was uo less than 35,311 bales, the figures being as follows ; —Hemp, year ending 31st March, 1909, 11,320 bales ; 1910, 23,869 bales; 1911, 33,176 bales; 1912, 36,#92 bales. For the twelve months ending 30th April, 19x2, the number ot bales graded was 88,875, as compared with 105,478 tor the previous twelve months, the decrease being 17,103 bales. During the same mouth 2,474 bales of cow were dealt with, as compared with 1,590 for the corresponding mouth of last year, an increase ot 884 bales. HUMP.
