A SUSPICIOUS DEATH.

Curistuhukch, May 18

Elizabeth Henderson, a married woman, died suddenly at Kaiapoi yesterday. At the inquest here to-day sensational evidence was given. Dr Crawshaw said the woman was pregnant, and death was caused by abnormal conditions ol the uterus, which conditions might have been caused by the use ol an instrument.

Deceased’s nine-year-old son said Mrs Bridget Chalk was with his mother when she died.

The inquest was adjourned till May 24th. Mrs Chalk was formally charged with having caused the death of Mrs Henderson by an unlawlul act. She was remanded till May 24th.
