TOTALISATOR PERMITS.
DEPUTATION TO MR RUSSKDL.
Auckland, April 24.
When the question of the working of the anti-gambling legislation was referred to the Hon. G. W. Russell, under whose jurisdiction comes the issue of totalisator permits, the Minister said the administraiion of the gaming law was one that did not come within his province, it was a matter for the Minister for Justice. Mr Russell pointed out that the findings of the Racing Commission were to have effect for only one year, and that the period expired on July 31. Then the whole question of totalisator permits would come up for review by the Cabinet. Already a large number of applications for peimits for the ensuing racing year had been received by the Department, but nothing could be said just now as to what would be done until the whole matter had been fully reviewed.
