CHURCH SERVICE NOVELTY.
An experiment was made one Sunday at the Methodist Church at Hillsdale, New Jersey. The pastor, the Rev William Hurd, is the choirmaster as well as the preacher. Just before the sermon at night, at a given signal (the Daily News states;, twelve boys rose in the trout pew and marched into the spacious platform pulpit to a harmonious accompaniment of the tune ol “Onward Christian Soldiers,” Then, standing in a row, tney proceeded to give the church yell. “Say, my mends,” they shouted, “have you seeu Second Timothy, two, filteeu ; First Thessalouiaus, five, twentytwo? fells you exactly what to do.” Before the congregation had quite recovered from this evangelical novelty, the boys whistled in chorus two hymns, “Stand Up, Stand Up lor Jesus,” and “Wonderful Words of Life,” Mr Hurd explained tnat it was all part ol a new method of getting an increased attendance at church.
