ENTERTAINMENTS.

SKATING

On Tuesday night the Municipal Rink was particularly well patronised, the attendance being such as to tax the floor space of the hall to almost its limit, and certainly to the limit of comfort from the skaters’ point of view The pastime was entered into with a zest, and everyone enjoyed the evening’s amusement to the full. There seemed to be an unusual amount of enthusiasm, and although novices and good skaters alike came frequent “croppers,” it only seemed to add to the enjoyment and make the evening pass merrily. A new departure was made in the proceedings, in that the ladies and gentlemen were allowed ten minutes lor last skating separately, and this was much appreciated and taken full advantage of by both sexes. The learners' room was well patronised, and the number of budding “knights of the rollers” may be taken as a guarantee ol the success of skating this season. The thorough system of management is an important lactor m the enjoyabieuess of the municipal rink, and when passes are issued to patrons who wish to leave the hall temporarily, little rou u for criticism will be found by the most fastidious. The rink will be open this evening and to-morrow evening.

PICTURE SHOW. “Lorna Doone,” the grand star picture for Saturday night, is taken from R. Blackmore’s widelyknown book of the same name. This beautiful aud touching story is a general favourite with ail who have read it. On Saturday night it will be thrown on the screen in pictures, aud all should lake this opportunity of witnessing this particular item. Other uramas are: “The Girl Spy Before Vickershurg,’’ this is a splendid subject, full of excitement and danger; “An Indian Appreciation” aud “The Thiel aud the Girl,” are two dramas 01 equal merit. An industrial him which should prove a great attraction is “The Ironworks of Russia.” One of the scenics that will be watched very closely is “Torpedo Boat Firing”; this will show the method of hurling these terrible deathdealing missiles. Another beautiful scenic is “Among the Murruts.” The three comics are all sure laugh-raisers; perhaps the funniest will be “The Electric Villa,” or “How a House Went Mad,” “Alkali Ikes’ Auto Car” is put down as a record breaker, side splitter, etc.
