Mr Field, clerk at the i,ongburn railway station, was knocked down by a motor car last night and received serious injuries to the head. His condition is critical.

Mr S. J. Beattie, who has been missing trom Mauakau for eleven days, has not yet been found. Two of his dogs were iouud yesterday in the Otaki Gorge. The search party is still out.

Mr P. Hennessy attended yesterday’s meeting at Shannon in his capacity as Chairman of the Foxton Harbour Board, in order to watch the interests of the Board.

Mr H. Greig, who was in Wellington, sent a telegram apologising on account of his inability to be present at the meeting at Shannon yesterday in connection with the flood waters of the Manawatu, but the apology was not received until alter the meeting had been held.

At Monday night’s Council meeting, Cr Coley criticised the quality of the metal that is being used ou the Beach road, terming it “ nothing more than rubbish.” He considered the price charged for it by the County Council, 6s hd per yard, was altogether too high. Miss Ada Ward, the actressevangelist, concluded a week’s mission at Scots’ Church, Sydney, by announcing her decision to return to the stage. She stated she could never erase from her mind the unkind way she had been treated by the Christian profession. Since she left the stage she had led a desperately lonely life and could bear it no longer. She would return to the dear theatrical people who were noble and generous. A fairly good audience was present at the municipal picture entertainment last night, and the programme submitted was fully appreciated. The scenic films were very good, “In Volcanic Country” showing some weird and interesting volcanic formations, and “In the Valley of Po” containing picturesque views and snow scenes. The dramas and comics were ol good variety, and combined with the ever-popular “Pathe Gazette,” went to make up an enjoyable programme.
