COUNCIL AND EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
At last night’s Council meeting a letter was read from the secretary of the Manawatu Employers’ Association, asking the Council to join same.
It was moved by Cr Chryslall, and seconded by Cr Coley, that this Council join the Manawatu Employers’ Association. Cr Speirs did not think the Council should join the Association. They always treated their men in a satisfactory manner without being forced or employing such a body as the Association to look after their business.
Cr Chrystall considered it would be a good thing to join. Unity was strength ; the workers had their Federation, and he considered the employers should also join together.
Cr Coley also favoured joining, especially in view of the recent trouble at Auckland. They must protect themselves, and it was only reasonable that they should join, as the workers throughout the Dominion were federating. The motion was carried, Cr Speirs alone opposing it.
