SINGULAR WEDDING PRESENT.
Washington society is amused over a story which has just leaked out, ot a singular present which ex-President Rooseveit made a recent bride in that city. Miss Mary Carlisle recently married Mr Walter Howe, a prominent lawyer, and her wedding was one of the social events of the season.
Miss Carlisle is the daughter of very wealthy parents, and her presents were numerous and costly. One arrived from Mr Roosevelt, and Miss Carlisle, in delightful anticipation of the ex-President’s gift, opened the package in the presence of a number of friends. When the package was opened, there was disclosed the tail of a rhinoceros, unmounted in any fashion, and quite natural. The girl screamed, and was seriously frightened, as she thought at first it was a snake. Mr Roosevelt’s card was attached to it, and it was actualiy one of his African hunting trophies, no doubt highly prized by himself; but the dismay of Miss Carlisle at the present may easily be imagined,
