POLITICAL.
THE NEW CABINET
WILL IT INCLUDE A LABOUR MEMBER ?
Matters political in Wellington at the present time are very quiet, and the only questions that appear to now exercise the minds of those interested are : “Who is to be the new leader?” and “How will the Ministry be constituted ?” The meeting of the Liberal and Labour members to elect a new leader is to be held at Sir Joseph Ward’s residence on Thursday evening next. Once the leader is appointed it will be only a matter of a very short time before the personnel of the Ministry is made known. It is stated on what is considered very good authority, that a Labour member is to be offered a portfolio, but whether it will be accepted or not remains to be seen. Certain sections of Labour are of opinion that the Labour members should hold aloof from any Party, whilst other sections contend that Labour has more to gain by allying itselt with the Liberal Party. One thing is almost certain, however, and that is that the Labour members will be in attendance at the forthcoming caucus.
