CEMETERY AND SEXTON.
COMPLAINTS TO COUNCIL
At last night’s Council meeting two complaints were read in reference to the Sexton. One complaint was that a grave had not been dug the required depth, and in another case the complaint was made that a grave was not dug in the place selected. The Sexton was in attendance and made a statement. The whole matter was dealt with in committee and on resuming business the following resolution was carried: Proposed by the Mayor and seconded by Cr Coley, that Mr Dunn be informed in reply to his letter that the Council will inquire into the matter and that he also be informed that before the coffin could be moved he would require to get the authority of the Minister lor Internal Affairs.
Proposed by Cr Speirs and seconded by Cr Coley, that the Town Clerk write to the complainant in reply to his letter stating that the Sexton admits having made a mistake in measuring grave and regrets having done so. Proposed by the Mayor and seconded by Cr Qoley, that after considering the explanation given by Mr Jonsou relative to the mistake in depth of grave, he be requested to exercise more care in the future and to dig the graves 6tt in depth.. It was turther decided on the motion of Cr Carter seconded by Cr Chrystall, that the Town Clerk and Sexton, with the assistance it necessary of borough workmen, go iuto the matter ot numbers on graves in cemetery and where necessary re-number them, and also that any other necessary work in cemetery be attended to.
