MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Tuesday. Present; Messrs Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), J. Henson,, H. H. Hunt, B. Gray, R. B. AlacKeuzie, W. E. Barber, and W. J. Phillips. A letter was received from the Treasurer, intimating that the special rate for the loan of £6O for the purpose of constructing drainage works in the Oroua Downs had been gazetted, and that the Makowhai loan of ,£350 had been finally approved.—Received. The transfer of part section 15, Moutoa Estate, from H. G. Hammond to A. Austin was made.
The treasurer reported as follows : General account dr., .£2721 7s id ; loan account cr., ,£822 16s id ; net dr. balance, ,£IB9B ros. The amounts available for expenditure in the various ridings to March 31st are ; Awahou, ,£69 16s ; Whirokiuo division, £7O 4s Bd. Amounts over expended : Saudon riding, £lO7 10s id ; Mt. Stewart, £8 is 3d ; Waitohi, £32 7s 2d ; Rougotea, £33 3s 2d ; Carnarvon, >£l27 4s lod ; Kawakawa, £,’209 is 3d. The following tenders were accepted : Contract 137, I. D. S. Cooksley section A, 10s 6d per yard ; section B, 6s 8d per yard ; contract 139, L. J. Buick 2s gd per yard ; contract 140, T. J. Lucas 7s per yard for metal and 5s per yard for clay; contract 138 was held over till next meeting.
The tramway manager reported the credit balance was £BO 5s gd and included in expenses is an amount tor £46 19s 6d for sleepers. The chief items of traffic were : General merchandise, 154 H tons ; minerals, 157?. tons; grass seed, 350 tons ; metal, 600yds; limber, 52700 ft ; wool, 267 bales ; sheep, 24 trucks. The lares amounted to £5 19s lod. Up to the end of the mouth 2340 yards of metal have been hauled for the Foxton beach road.
