BOWLING.
Yesterday afternoon a rink from Otaki visited Foxton in quest of the Toms Ferns, which have been held by the local Club since New Year’s Day. Their trip was not in vain, as they succeeded in defeating the holders of the trophies by the substantial margin of 18 points. Rain interrupted the game after ten heads had been played, the score then being Otaki 16, Foxton 4, and it looked as if the game would have to be abandoned. After a wait of some little time, however, the rain abated somewhat, and it was decided to finish the match. On the first head after the adjournment, Foxton scored two, but in the next five heads the visitors put on ten, making the totals 26 —6. In the last five heads Foxton scored seven and Otaki five. The rinks were : Otaki. Foxton* Carpenter Spring Bates Whibley Ferguson Clemett Satherley (s) 31 Rimmer (s) 13 At the conclusion of the game the ferns were handed Over to the Otaki skip by Mr Rimmer, and cheers were given for the winners. During the afternoon, refreshments were orovided by Mrs Witchell. On Tuesday afternoon the final for Mr Hennessy’s trophy was played between Whibley and Munro, handicap 5, and Spring and Clemett, handicap 1. This was a very close and interesting game, and with one head to go, skip Clemett had a lead of one point, but on the last head Whibley and Munro scored two, and thus won by one point, the final scores being 23 —22.
